Kevin O’Brien was the highest run-getter for the Gujarat Giants in the second edition of the Legends League Cricket. The former Ireland cricket team all-rounder amassed 203 runs in six matches at an impressive strike rate of 166.39 while also maintaining a decent average of 33.83.
The 38-year-old also smashed a scintillating hundred (61-ball 106) against Jacques Kallis-led India Capitals in the opening match of the tournament at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Kevin O’Brien’s brilliant ton helped the Giants chase down a competitive target of 180 in 18.4 overs to secure a three-wicket win. The Irish batter’s match-winning knock was laced with 15 fours and three maximums.
Interestingly, Kevin O’Brien and Gujarat Giants captain Virender Sehwag formed one of the most destructive opening partnerships in the recently-concluded edition of the Legends League Cricket.
Following the inclusion of legendary openers in West Indies swashbuckling batter Chris Gayle and former Sri Lanka all-rounder Tillakaratne Dilshan, Kevin O’Brien played in the middle-order in the latter half of the tournament.
Batting at number six, the Dublin-born cricketer scored 45 runs off just 24 balls for the Gujarat Giants against Irfan Pathan’s Bhilwara Kings in the Eliminator clash of Legends League Cricket 2022 in Jodhpur. However, Kevin O’Brien’s blitzkrieg innings went in vain as the Giants succumbed to a six-wicket defeat to get knocked out of the tournament.
Meanwhile, Yashpal Singh was the second highest run-scorer for the Gujarat Giants. The right-handed batter scored 181 runs in five matches at an average of 45.25 and a strike rate of 143.65. The Indian cricketer also slammed two magnificent fifties in the tournament.
