Just under 24 hours after registering their biggest ever win in the VIVO Pro Kabaddi League, Gujarat Fortune Giants will take the mat to face the home team Haryana Steelers at the Tau Devilal Sports Complex, Panchkula, on Sunday.
We couldn’t have asked for a better result after a six match winless streak, and there is no doubt that the Giants will fight tooth and nail to get all five points against the stern Haryana Steelers outfit.
Manpreet’s decision to bring in Sonu Jaglan in place of Sachin Tanwar was a master stroke, as the raider rose to the occasion and picked up 15 raid points against the Thalaivas.
Rohit Gulia too was unstoppable on the day with a Super 10, and if our captain cool and Sonu replicate their heroics against the steelers, we have a great chance to come out on top against them.
On account of Rohit Gulia and Sonu Jaglan’s power-packed performance yesterday, the third raider in the team Vinod wasn’t tested much and he was seen aiding the defence with successful tackles.
It will be interesting to see whether Manpreet will keep Vinod for the high-octane clash against the Steelers or bring in the experienced More GB.
In addition to Rohit Gulia and Sonu Jaglan, Parvesh Bhainswal’s recent form has also been a huge silver lining for us. Despite Sunil’s absence against the Thalaivas, Parvesh Bhainswal stamped his authority and picked up his fourth High 5 this season.
Pankaj and Ruturaj have finally justified Manpreet’s faith after the duo pulled off impressive tackles on Saturday.
Our defence had an off day when we faced the Steelers in Delhi as Prashant Kumar Rai and Vikas Kandola showed their supremacy. However, with the in-form Parvesh Bhainswal and the settled corner defence, we can gain an upper hand over them on Sunday.
Key Giant
Pankaj
He had a dream debut against the Jaipur Pink Panthers with a High 5 performance, but after that he hasn’t found a consistent place in the team. His performance against Tamil Thalaivas showed why he’s deemed as one of the bright young prospects to look out for in the future .
Vikas Kandola and Prashant Kumar Rai exploited the weakness in the left corner and posed a serious threat to us in the last match. They will look to target that area again on Sunday, and we hope Pankaj will rise to the challenge with his signature ankle and thigh holds.
Head-To-Head
The Giants have a dominant Head-to-Head record against almost all teams in VIVO Pro Kabaddi League but Haryana Steelers have troubled us in the past. In the six encounters against the Steelers, we have managed to win only two games.
They may have beaten us comprehensively in Delhi but we are expecting a breathtaking battle on Sunday. After stunning performances from our raiders, Sunday’s match will be deemed as the battle between our raiders vs the Haryana Steelers defence.
Line-up
Rohit Gulia (C), Sunil Kumar, Sachin Tanwar, Ruturaj Koravi, Pankaj, More GB, Parvesh Bhainswal.
