Cautious start.
For the most important match of the season, we did not make any change to the winning combination that got us here from the previous match. Hadi Oshtorak stayed in the starting seven as added experienced player along with Sachin, Prapanjan, Sunil, and Parvesh. They were paired with Sachin Vittala and Ruturaj Koravi. It was our strongest starting line-up, well balanced with experienced and young players.
K Prapanjan opened the scoring for us in the finals, escaping an ankle hold on him. With a Do-or-Die raid, Rohit Kumar claimed a touch on the captain which was over turned with the help of a video review. K Prapanjan started off well getting us an important point in the Do-or-Die raid. No team was giving into the pressure, no raiders were venturing deep into the opposition half. With the score tied at 5-5 with 10 minutes into the game neither team’s defence was giving into the bait of the raiders to make an error.
With an excellent tackle by Sachin Vittala on Pawan Kumar Sehrawat we got a lead of one point with 6 minutes to play. In the Do-or-Die raid Sachin Tanwar smartly got his toes over the center line to get us the much-needed point extending our lead to 2 points. We were playing the waiting game smartly not making any unnecessary tackles. With just two men for Bengaluru on the mat K. Prapanjan was able to get a touch on one of the defenders as the other came in for the tackle. He smartly escaped the tackle and inflicted the first All-out gaining 4 points in the process. Our defence had picked up in the game as we closed the half with 6 points lead.
Bitter Ending.
Our defence started the half where they left, with a double ankle hold on Pawan Kumar Sehrawat. All our defenders had entered the scoring books with one tackle point each. Ruturaj Koravi made an excellent double ankle hold on Pawan and Parvesh got the double ankle hold on the Bengaluru’s captain. In the next raid Sachin showed his excellent raiding skills to add to our lead.
With some quick raiding by Pawan, Bengaluru were back into the game, cutting our lead and taking a slender lead of one point. When we needed points, it was Rohit Gulia who came through with a Super Raid taking out Pawan Sehrawat in the process. It was cutting close in the dying moments of the match. Bengaluru were leading with 2 points with 2 minutes to play in the game. The result of the game was still not decided. Pawan Sehrawat put together a combination of smart raids and inflicted a second All-out on Gujarat. Our giants were rattled with that.
In the end, our Giants played their hearts out but unfortunately it was not enough to put us over the line. The coveted trophy still eludes us.
