The Giants kicked off the season in spectacular fashion with a relatively comfortable 34-27 win over the inaugural champions. However, they stuttered against defending champions, Bengal Warriors, before sealing a nail-biting 24-24 draw against table-toppers, Dabang Delhi.

Much was expected of the Gujarat Giants defense in their latest encounter, but it was the two Rakeshs who impressed the most. The senior pro came ever-so-close to a Super 10, accumulating a total of 9 points in the match, while his younger teammate notched up 4 points.

Following a difficult start to the season, Sunil Kumar is finding his feet on the VIVO Pro Kabaddi mat. The Giants captain registered 4 successful tackles against Dabang Delhi, including an impeccable Thigh Hold to eliminate Naveen Kumar. The likes of Girish Ernak and Parvesh Bhainswal have also shown glimpses of what they are capable of.

Unlike Gujarat Giants, UP Yoddha endured a shaky start to the season. Despite Pardeep Narwal’s heroics, the men from UP came up short against the high-flying Bengal Warriors. However, they managed to knick a thrilling 36-35 win against the three-time VIVO Pro Kabaddi champions, Patna Pirates.

They failed to build on that momentum, losing out by just 3 points against inaugural champions, Jaipur Pink Panthers. Pardeep Narwal, who was picked up for a whopping 1.65 crore by the UP-based franchise, has arguably failed to live up to his billing, thus far. He notched up just 3 points in his last outing.

The star raider, however, will be raring to make amends against the Giants. Gujarat will also have to deal with the persistent threat of Surender Gill and Rohit Tomar, and only time will tell if they can counter them or not.
