The Giants came into this match high on confidence at the back of two consecutive wins, but couldn’t get past the rampaging Patna Pirates. Gujarat made two changes going into the match as ex-Pirate Hadi came in for the injured Ravinder Pahal while Rakesh Narwal made way for Mahendra Ganesh Rajput.
The match was closely contested in the opening minutes, but a Super Raid by MGR seemed to turn the tide in Gujarat's favour. Manpreet Singh's men took a commanding 13-5 lead halfway into the first half. However, the men from Patna staged a comeback to level the score at 14-14, and then they didn’t look back. Some brilliant performances from the likes of Guman Singh, Prashant Kumar and Shadloui helped the Pirates take a 16-14 lead going into half time.
Patna carried on with the momentum in the second half as they were off to a flying start. They inflicted an All Out twice within 15 minutes post the break, taking a daunting 39-21 lead in the 35th minute of the game. The Pirates emerged victorious by a 43-23 margin at the stroke of the full-time whistle.
However, there were some positives for the Giants in this disappointing loss. MGR displayed his prowess once again, racking up 6 points in the match, and Pardeep Kumar registered 4 points. The men from Gujarat will look to put this loss behind them quickly as they face off against the third-placed Bengaluru Bulls in two days' time.
