Rakesh Sungroya’s super 10 went in vain as Gujarat Giants’ lost 37-46 to Bengaluru Bulls in Pro Kabaddi Season 8 at the Sheraton Grand, Whitefield in Bengaluru on Friday.
Gujarat’s lead raider of the season Rakesh Sungroya scored 14 raid points while the defending duo of Parvesh Bhainswal and Sunil Kumar managed four tackle points each. Substitute Pradeep Kumar returned with six points in the match.
For Bengaluru Bulls, captain Pawan Sehrawat was the top raider with 19 raid points while Saurabh Nanadal was the lead defender with three tackle points. Bharat starred with nine points that included two tackle points.
Gujarat Giants started the match on a perfect note with Sunil tackling Pawan Sehrawat off the very first raid of the match. Thereafter, Gujarat scored three points in succession to take a 4-1 lead within the first five minutes of the game.
Bharat then revived Pawan off the next raid and turned the momentum in Bengaluru’s favour as the Hi-Flyer scored a super raid and soon inflicted an all-out to help Bengaluru Bulls lead 15-11.
For Gujarat, Rakesh Sungroya’s timely raid points helped Gujarat Giants reduce the deficit although their multiple failed tackles on Pawan Sehrawat allowed Bengaluru Bulls to maintain the lead.
In the second half, Pradeep Kumar’s twin two-point raids allowed Gujarat Giants to make a comeback. However, Bengaluru Bulls’ all-round effort from the defence helped them maintain a stronghold on the match
With five minutes left on the clock, Bengaluru Bulls’ inflicted another all-out to take a 10-point lead as Gujarat Giants eventually succumbed to a 37-46 loss.
Gujarat Giants suffered their fifth loss of this season and are at the penultimate position with 20 points. Meanwhile, the win helped Bengaluru Bulls climb to the pole position in the standings.
Gujarat Giants play U Mumba next on Tuesday.
