After a two-year break, the Vivo Pro Kabaddi League has returned. The League allotted three categories for the franchises ahead of the auction: Elite Retained Players, Retained Young Players, and New Young Players. The Auction has been spread over three days; Day 1 allowed teams to sign new young players, while Day 2 consisted of marquee domestic and international players. Day 3 comprises the remaining Elite Domestic Players to choose from.
The Gujarat Giants retained the experienced duo of Sunil Kumar and Parvesh Bhainswal, who have been the cornerstones of the team in the past.The Ahmedabad-based franchise also retained Harmanjit Singh, Sumit and Ankit. The young trio will look to make their mark in the upcoming season under the guidance of Gujarat Giants’ charismatic coach, Manpreet Singh.
With five players already in the squad, the management team had a quiet day on Day 1 of the auction. Day 2 was ‘auction’-packed, with a bidding war between Puneri Paltan and the Giants over former Delhi Dabang player Ravindar Pahal. The Giants managed to successfully acquire his services for ₹70 Lakhs. With the acquisitions made, Coach Manpreet Singh looks to strengthen the defensive area of the squad.
It has been a long two years’ wait for the Vivo Pro Kabaddi League to return. The Gujarat Giants have already made strong strides towards building the perfect team for the upcoming season. With one more gruelling day at the Auction Table on the cards, there are sure to be some more Giant picks!
