Gujarat Giants endured a tough day as they lost to Delhi Capitals by six wickets in their fourth match of the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Tuesday.
Put in to bat, Bharti Fulmali’s unbeaten 40 and Deandra Dottin’s 26 helped the Giants post 127/9 in their allotted overs. Later, the Giants’ bowlers fought till the very end, however, it wasn’t enough as the Capitals chased down the target in 15.1 overs.
Earlier, the Giants’ openers Beth Mooney and Harleen Deol added 16 runs for the opening wicket before Harleen departed in the fourth over of the game.
The Giants soon succumbed to massive blows as Phoebe Litchfield, Beth Mooney and Kashvee Gautam fell in quick succession.
Struggling at 20/4, Deandra Dottin joined captain Ashleigh Gardner at the crease. Meanwhile, Deandra Dottin played some scintillating shots to put the pressure back on the Capitals’ bowlers. Later in the ninth over, the Giants lost another huge wicket as skipper Gardner was dismissed.
At the other end, Dottin continued her attacking approach before the flamboyant all-rounder departed for 26. Her quick-fire knock was laced with five fours.
In desperate need of a partnership, Bharti Fulmali walked out to bat as she joined Tanuja Kanwar in the middle.
While Kanwar played the anchor role, Fulmali pulled off some impressive shots to bring the Giants back into the game.
Kanwar and Fulmali then stitched a brilliant 51-run stand for the seventh wicket before the former was dismissed after an unfortunate run-out.
Fulmali’s unbeaten 40 off just 29 balls helped the Giants post 127/9 in their 20 overs. Her outstanding knock included four fours and two maximums.
Defending 127, young right-arm pacer Kashvee Gautam provided an early breakthrough for the Giants as she cleaned up Meg Lanning in her second over.
Following Meg Lanning’s departure, Shafali Verma and Jess Jonassen forged a brilliant partnership for the second wicket.
Later in the 10th over, captain Gardner led from the front as she trapped Shafali in front of the stumps to end a 74-run stand.
Left-arm spinner Tanuja Kanwar later joined the party as she removed Jemimah Rodrigues.
In the following over, Kashvee Gautam continued her exceptional spell as she bagged the big wicket of Annabel Sutherland.
While the Giants’ bowlers fought till the very end, it wasn’t enough as the Capitals registered a six-wicket win in Bengaluru.
