The second season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) has ended for our Gujarat Giants, with a tough loss to the Delhi Capitals. Unfortunately, we did not have the best run this season, winning only 2 of our games and finishing at the bottom of the points table. Despite this, there were some bright spots, with players like Beth Mooney, Laura Wolvaardt, Shabnam Shakil, and Tanuja Kanwer making us proud with their performances.
In our final game, we chose to bat after winning the toss. However, we got off to a shaky start, losing Beth Mooney early on. Though Phoebe Litchfield and Ashleigh Gardner tried to stabilize the innings, we couldn't post a big score. But thanks to a solid knock of 42 from Bharti Fulmali, we managed to reach a total of 126. Marizanne Kapp, Shikha Pandey, and Minnu Mani starred with the ball for Delhi Capitals, taking two wickets each.
Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma then got the Capitals off to a quick start, reaching 31 runs in just 3 overs. A double-wicket maiden bowled by Tanuja Kanwer offered a brief glimmer, but Shafali Verma and Jemimah Rodrigues guided Delhi Capitals to victory. Shafali was particularly belligerent as she smacked a six-filled 71 before she was dismissed with only 2 runs to go to win.
Although the season didn't go as planned, we are proud of our team's efforts. We see this season as a learning experience and hope to perform better in the next one. We are grateful to our fans for their unwavering support throughout the season. Until next season, thank you all for your backing.
