
In-form Gujarat Giants (GG) will look to maintain winning momentum when they square off against Delhi Capitals (DC) in their penultimate league match of the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Friday, March 7.
Under the leadership of Ashleigh Gardner, the Giants will head into the game brimming with confidence after registering back-to-back wins.
The Giants began the Lucknow leg of the WPL 2025 with a comprehensive 81-run victory over hosts UP Warriorz on Monday.
Put in to bat, wicketkeeper-batter Beth Mooney slammed an unbeaten 96 off just 59 balls to power the Giants to 186/5 in their 20 overs.
Later, the Giants produced an impressive bowling performance to bundle out the Warriorz for 105 in 17.1 overs.
Young right-arm pacer Kashvee Gautam and left-arm spinner Tanuja Kanwer picked up three wickets each to help the Giants secure a commanding win in Lucknow.
Earlier, the Michael Klinger-coached Giants secured a clinical six-wicket win over defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium last week.
With consecutive wins, the Giants have jumped to second in the WPL 2025 standings with six points from six matches.
Gardner and her team will be aiming to register another win on Friday as they look to book their place in the WPL 2025 playoffs.
Skipper Gardner has led from the front with her all-round performances in the ongoing WPL. The Australian all-rounder has amassed 213 runs and claimed seven wickets in the tournament so far.
Apart from Gardner, Beth Mooney (180 runs) and Harleen Deol (130 runs) have been among the runs for the Giants.
Meanwhile, Kashvee Gautam has been the leading wicket-taker for the side with nine scalps. Tanuja Kanwer and all-rounder Deandra Dottin have picked up seven wickets each.
On the other hand, the Meg Lanning-led Delhi Capitals became the first team to qualify for the WPL 2025 playoffs.
With five wins and two losses, the Capitals are currently placed on top of the WPL 2025 standings with 10 points.
