
Gujarat Giants produced a dominant performance to beat UP Warriorz by 81 runs in their sixth match of the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Monday, March 3.
Put in to bat, the Giants rode on Beth Mooney’s scintillating knock (96*) to post 186/5 in their 20 overs. Later, the Giants’ bowlers picked up wickets at regular intervals to bundle out the Warriorz for 105 in 17.1 overs.
Earlier, the Giants suffered an early blow as opening batter Dayalan Hemalatha departed in the opening over.
Harleen Deol then joined Beth Mooney at the crease. The duo played some scintillating shots and brought up the team's fifty in the seventh over.
Mooney and Harleen continued their attacking approach to put the bowlers under pressure.
Later in the 12th over, Mooney notched up her second fifty of the season, her fifth half-century for the Giants in the WPL.
The swashbuckling pair stitched an impressive 101-run stand off just 68 balls before Harleen was dismissed for 45.
Despite losing Harleen’s wicket, Mooney slammed Warriorz’s Kranti Goud for a hat-trick of fours to accumulate 16 runs in the 14th over.
Mooney and Ashleigh Gardner added 44 runs for the third wicket before the Giants’ skipper fell for 11.
Batting at No.5, Deandra Dottin played an eye-catching cameo of 17 runs off just eight deliveries. The Giants later lost Dottin and Phoebe Litchfield in quick succession.
Meanwhile, Mooney remained unbeaten on 96 to power the Giants to 186/5. Her magnificent knock was laced with 17 boundaries.
Defending 186, the Giants got off to a brilliant start as Dottin removed Kiran Navgire (0) and Georgia Voll (0) in the first over of the chase.
Kashvee Gautam soon joined the party as she cleaned up Vrinda Dinesh (1) in her second over.
The Giants continued to pick up wickets at regular intervals as Meghna Singh dismissed opposition skipper Deepti Sharma (6).
Captain Gardner later bagged the wicket of Shweta Sehrawat (5) while Tanuja Kanwer removed Grace Harris (25) to reduce the Warriorz to 48/6.
Chinelle Henry showed some resistance for the Warriorz with a quick-fire 28 before she fell to Kanwer.
Later in the 17th over, Kashvee Gautam dismissed Uma Chetry (17) and Gouher Sultana (0) in consecutive deliveries.
Kanwer then wrapped up the Warriorz’s innings as she castled Sophie Ecclestone (14) to help the Giants register a massive 81-run victory in Lucknow.
With the dominant win, the Giants jumped to second in the WPL 2025 standings with six points from six games.
The Giants will be looking to continue their winning run when they face Delhi Capitals in their penultimate league match at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Friday, March 7.
