The wait is finally over! The Women’s Premier League is all set to kick off on February 14, and what better way to begin than with Gujarat Giants taking on the defending champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, in Vadodara.
The past two seasons have been tough for us as we finished at the bottom of the table both times. However, this year, we’re confident of turning things around with a refreshed squad and renewed determination. One of the biggest changes is Ashleigh Gardner taking over as captain from Beth Mooney. Mooney, though, remains a vital part of our team with her experience and consistency. To bolster our lineup further, we’ve added Deandra Dottin, whose all-round skills can change games, and Danielle Gibson, a promising talent. We're looking at a strong and balanced side with stars like Laura Wolvaardt, Mooney, Gardner, Dottin, and Harleen Deol. Another big boost is the return of Kashvee Gautam, one of the fastest bowlers in Indian cricket, who missed last season. Her pace and aggression will be a key asset for us this time.
On the other hand, Royal Challengers Bengaluru had a dream season in 2024, winning their first-ever title. They are coming into this season as favorites, with a formidable lineup that includes Smriti Mandhana, Ellyse Perry, Georgia Wareham, and Danielle Wyatt. However, they’ve been hit by injuries, with Sophie Molineux ruled out and Sophie Devine and Kate Cross unavailable. In their place, Charlie Dean and Kim Garth have stepped in. Even with these challenges, RCB remains a strong side, and beating them will not be an easy task.
The stage is set for an electrifying opening match, and both teams will be eager to start the season with a win. Vadodara will host this thrilling encounter, and we’re confident of putting up a spectacular performance. Season 3 of the Women’s Premier League is here, and we’re ready to make it count!
